Fircrest Lakeside RV & Cottage Resort is 14.5 acres situated on beautiful Lac la Hache (Lake of the Axe). It is a large warm lake located in south central BC just 2.75 hours from Kamloops and is 18 km long and up to 155 feet deep. The lake is clear, warm, and uncrowded and private with very little public access. It is an excellent four-season fishing lake for kokanee salmon, lake trout, rainbow trout, and burbot during the summer months. However, fishing need not be your only recreational pursuit, as the lake is also a popular place for swimming, power boating, waterskiing, snowmobiling, kayaking, paddle-boarding, ice fishing, skating, and a full range of water sport activities. It is truly a place where memories are made.

There are literally hundreds of kilometers of trails nearby, which are perfect for ATV adventures, hiking, biking, or beautiful nature walks with the family. The recently expanded and renovated Mount Timothy Ski Hill is a short drive away along with numerous cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails. Located less than a kilometer from the highway, this resort is also a short drive to hospitals and both small town shopping in 100 Mile House and city amenities in Williams Lake.

These cottages are not your typical cabin by the lake. They are quality built, fully serviced, post and beam construction within a gated lakeside community. Each cabin sits on a minimum 3,000 square foot lot, has floor to ceiling windows with one bedroom on the main floor plus loft above. View the artist’s rendering and cottage virtual tour contained within this listing to get a full representation of these cozy cottages. Nestled along 1,450 feet of waterfront on Lac La Hache, resort amenities include private beach, marina area with docks, wash house, laundry, playground, toy and trailer parking, walking paths and boat launch.

There are additional monthly fees for the cottage sites which cover the cost of operation and include power, water, sewer, snow removal, general maintenance, property taxes, insurance and management etc. These annual costs are divided by the total number of sites in the resort. The operating budget is reviewed annually and presented each year at the Annual General Meeting. At the present time, the fees are approximately $100 per month. The current operating budget can be found in our Disclosure Document. Ask the listing REALTOR® for a copy. NOTE: each cottage will also receive its own assessment and tax bill for the cottage structure itself.

    Area Data

Lac La Hache is one of the most popular recreation lakes along Highway 97. There are many stories to explain how the lake was named; according to one, it gained its name when a trapper lost his only hatchet axe when chopping a hole in the frozen lake. This area is rich in tales of fur traders, gold seekers and cattle ranchers. By the 1860s, gold fever was running high, as miners searched for the motherlode first near Likely, and later at Barkerville. With teams of horses, mules and oxen, the fortune-seekers plodded north along the Cariboo Wagon Road skirting the eastern shores of the lake.

Nowadays, Lac La Hache Park is a stopping point for weary travellers. Set amongst a stately Douglas-fir forest, the cool, green conifers shade campers from the hot Cariboo sun. Lac La Hache Park is located on Highway 97, 13 km north of the community of Lac La Hache.

This is an excellent fishing lake for kokanee and lake trout, as well as rainbow trout and burbot during the summer months. However, fishing need not be your only recreational pursuit, as the lake is also a popular place for power boating and water-skiing.

    History

The community of 100 Mile House is located on the traditional territory of the Secwepemc people of the Interior Salish. It began in the early 1860s as a stopping house on the old Cariboo Road during the Cariboo Gold Rush. Its name owes to the fact that it was 100 miles from Mile 0 at Lillooet. Cattle ranching began around the same period. Ranching is still a major industry in the region.

In 1912, the Marquess of Exeter in Britain purchased Bridge Creek Ranch, a large property surrounding 100 Mile House. His son, Lord Martin Cecil, took over the ranch in 1930. Two years later, Cecil built 100 Mile Lodge to replace the old stopping house. The lodge accommodated tourists for years.

    Development

In 1949, the Jens brothers, owners of a sawmill, leased land from Bridge Creek Ranch and built houses for sawmill workers. Many others repeated this leasing agreement until the village was incorporated in 1965 and the properties were offered for sale to the tenants. Cecil helped to plan the community and donated land for a park (now named Centennial Park) and a bird sanctuary at 100 Mile Marsh. He also donated land for most of the other publicly owned buildings the population enjoys today.

Sometime after Cecil became leader of the Emissaries of Divine Light in 1954, his lodge became a private dwelling for this spiritual community. It is now an event venue owned by the municipality.

The District Municipality of 100 Mile House was incorporated in 1991. Today, the municipality serves a wide region where ranching, lumber, mining and tourism supply the economic base.
