In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Aspen Grove began to develop as a small stop along the historic stagecoach route between Merritt and Princeton. Travelers, ranchers, and prospectors passed through the area while moving between communities in the Nicola Valley and the Similkameen region. During this time the settlement served as a gathering point and supply stop for those traveling through the rugged interior landscape.

    Ranching soon became one of the area’s primary industries. The wide-open grasslands and gently rolling hills were ideal for cattle grazing, and large ranch properties began to develop throughout the region. Many of these ranching traditions continue today, and the surrounding countryside is still characterized by expansive acreages and working ranch land that reflect the area’s agricultural roots.

    Around the turn of the 20th century, prospectors were also drawn to Aspen Grove after copper deposits were discovered in the region. The surrounding hills became known as the Aspen Grove copper camp, and various exploration projects were undertaken in hopes of discovering major mineral deposits similar to those found at nearby Copper Mountain. While small mineral showings were discovered and exploration continued over the decades, large-scale mining never developed in the immediate Aspen Grove area.

    Throughout the mid-1900s, improved roads and highways gradually connected the small community more closely to nearby towns such as Merritt and Princeton. Despite these changes, Aspen Grove remained a quiet rural settlement rather than growing into a larger town.
