    Description

This offering includes 2 distinct businesses, “A/Z Outfitters” which is the hunting outfitter arm of the business and “A Bar Z Mountain Adventures” which is the horseback and hiking adventure business which includes multi-day horse assisted hiking and pack trips for families and groups in the Purcell Wilderness.

    A/Z Outfitters

A/Z Outfitters was established in 1948 by Dix Anderson. He began operating up Dutch Creek in the East Kootenays of British Columbia. Amongst the territory, backcountry cabins were built, only accessible by horse. Today, the territory operates the same way, using horses to pack up gear and hunt the mountains, and old cabins to stay in. In 1990, Bill DuBois bought the territory and continued guiding a variety of hunts including: elk, moose, mountain goat, mule deer, and black bear.

In 2010, Bill’s son, Brent DuBois bought the company and remains current owner. In 2016 Brent expanded the territory into Toby Creek by purchasing the neighboring hunter territory as well. This means the 2 territories together offer 1,100 sq. miles, with about 600 sq. miles of this territory being inside the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy with nine separate cabin camps.

This is truly a prime trophy hunting destination, a real slice of pristine wilderness that is yours to be seen, featuring elk, goat, bear, moose, deer and cougar hunts. Impressive game, experienced guides and noble horses are surely providing hunters the hunt of a lifetime. Most of the clients are repeat customers, or have been referred from previous clients.

The 5-year quota includes 27 Mountain Goats and 14 Moose and the business sale includes 30 horses and all tack to facilitate hunting and trail rides/summer pack trips.

    Goat Hunts
The mountain goats hunted thrive throughout the Purcell Mountains and are a large part of the business’s successful history here. With experienced guides, loyal horses, and beautiful landscapes you are sure to have the hunt of a lifetime.

    Elk Hunts
The area’s impressive Rocky Mountain elk have a long history of roaming both of the outfitter territories, and in recent years we have seen the population of elk growing tremendously. The recent elk counts are public information and show the strong growth in numbers. Elk hunts are done in the mid-September to mid-November season. After elk scouting throughout the territory in early September, guides get an understanding of the particular areas that the desirable bulls are roaming. A 6-point bull is the legal minimum to hunt; the guides give their hearts and souls in finding the bull you are dreaming of. Where they spot these elk will depend on which territory you are hunting—Dutch Creek or Toby Creek. These two territories belong to A/Z Outfitters, and are located right beside each other. Invermere, BC is the central town (for both territories) and the best to stay at the day before your hunt.

Day one is spent riding our horses into a cabin camp, which can be an expected 3-6 hour ride through thick timber, open valleys, and rugged landscape.

    Moose Hunts
These fall hunts are a rugged, pure experience you won’t forget. The outfitter horses take you through magnificent moose country, and the guides are experienced and knowledgeable. The first day of the 9-day hunt is spent riding to the first cabin camp in either Dutch Creek or Toby Creek. This ride can be anywhere between 4-6 hours. Wherever you hunt will depend on where the guides have seen the best moose in the territory!

Day 2-8 of the hunt, the majority of each day is riding to various hunting points from the main camp and glassing for moose. The areas winding rivers and swampy beds make for excellent moose country.

    Black Bear Hunts
These spring hunts include beautiful bear country among both the Dutch Creek and Toby Creek territories, backcountry cabins, and the faithful string of horses. The experienced guides have witnessed countless successful black bear hunts since 1948. It is truly a hunt you won’t forget.

These May and June Spring hunts are an amazing backcountry experience—to say the least. These beautiful black bears graze throughout the open slides in the mountainous territories of Toby and Dutch Creek. Unlike the mighty mountain goat, the black bears tend to live lower down, making for a more laid back, less physically demanding hunt.

The cabin camps have bunk beds with sleeping foamies. Most of the cabins do not a shower. All camps do have a cook cabin consisting of a fridge, stove and oven.

    A Bar Z Mountain Adventures

A Bar Z Mountain Adventures offers beginner horse leads to 10-day overnight trips, and everything in between. They have dedicated wranglers and a string of faithful horses.

The tourism in the area is booming to the area from July through September and A Bar Z Mountain Adventures has capitalized on the influx of tourists offering one-hour horseback tours in Fairmont, BC suitable for any level of experience. The mountain trail loops around in one big circle where clients ride through the timber, through a small creek and up to a view point.

Bar Z Mountain Adventures guided hiking trips can be anywhere from an 8-hour experience, to a 7-day experience! With 700,000 acres of pristine wilderness and 16 cabin camps, Bar Z Mountain Adventures can customize your dream hiking adventure so that it is suited to your experience level. Since the territory involves many rivers, they prefer to call these trips “Horse-Assisted Hiking Trips”. With horses, they can pack up gear, and cross deep river crossings. The guide will lead the way with a string of saddled horses, so you can hike or ride as you please. They provide the horses, the cabins, and the FOOD! All you need to bring is you and your hiking gear.

Outfitter territories in this trophy country do not come up for sale often!!

Current operator has an extensive client list that would be made available to the new owner. Call the listing REALTOR® today for more information.
