    History

The Leading Edge Wood Products, value added facility, was acquired by the Yunesit’in First Nation (Tsilhqot’in Nation) in 2020 as part of an initiative to foster Indigenous-led economic development grounded in forest stewardship, Yunesit’in members underwent training to operate the onsite sawmill, producing everything from rough-cut timbers to custom lumber, which supported both construction and revenue goals for the community. In May 2024, a frequency (RF) kiln was added to the mill, one of only two such systems in western Canada, enabling drying cycles of just 4‑6 days compared to the traditional kiln’s weeks-long process, improving both quality and output efficiency.

However, operations ceased in April 2025, and the mill is now actively for sale. Its commercial-grade saw milling, RF kiln technology, and sustainable practices rooted in Indigenous ownership make it a unique opportunity in the forestry sector.
