    Description

A stunningly lush acreage in the Selkirk Mountains near Slocan Lake and the quaint community of Silverton.

This 12.95-acre property has a gorgeous creek running through into and near its northern boundary providing a fresh water source for the very private cabin site and an amazing peaceful and soothing setting—a water licence is in place on the creek.

On the land are towering 125+ year old trees, mostly Hemlock and Cedar, and some remnants of a much older forest throughout the property.

The land slopes up from Red Mountain Road with the cabin site towards the top of a knoll. The cabin itself is an insulated shell with a sturdy metal roof and outside shower; a great home base to get started on setting up your West Kootenay escape. Although power runs along the road, power has not been brought into the cabin site. From the cabin there is an established hiking/biking trail heading out into the Crown land. There is direct Crown land access on two sides. An old Forest Service Road provides easy and convenient access to the cabin.

A big perk is there is no zoning opening up the potential to use the land how you desire—add a few cabins, a full-time residence, campsites, wilderness resort, etc.

    Area Data

    Silverton

    (Population approx. 200)

The small village of Silverton, BC’s second smallest municipality in both population and area. Silverton was first settled in 1892 by miners working the south face of Idaho Mountain, extracting the rich deposits of lead and silver; however, the area was first inhabited by the Kootenai and Salish First Nations whose pictographs can still be seen along the shores of Slocan Lake only a few kilometres from the property. The village which is located on the lake now has a mining museum, café, building supply store, dental clinic, chiropractor, gallery, village office, park, motel. More services are stores in New Denver including a grocery store, café and some great boutique shops—all only a short 5 minute drive from Silverton.

The Village of Silverton is one of a few small communities in the Slocan Valley where only about 5,600 people spread over the entire valley live within the 1,275 square miles (330,000 hectares); that’s less than 4 people per square mile!
