At the end of a quiet country road on Denman Island sits a contemporary retreat built around regenerative living. Set on 7.2 acres of forest, the ORCA-built A-frame homes are positioned for both connection and privacy. The main 2-bedroom, 2-bath home is currently divided into two living spaces, and a fully furnished suite adds flexibility and income potential.
Built in 2021 on screw foundations with steel stud framing, metal siding and galvanized steel roofs, these homes are durable and low maintenance. Each is warmed by its own wood stove, with baseboard backup heating, 200-amp service and fast CityWest Internet.
The land has been shaped with care. The forest was professionally assessed, and an extensive trail network and small controlled burns have reduced fire risk and made all seven acres accessible to wander. New salal and young firs are already returning. Bears and cougars are extremely rare on Denman, so the forest is a place to walk without worry.
The gardens are a food lover’s dream. There are ten apple varieties, four pears, plums, sour cherries, figs and chestnuts. Berries include blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, currants, marionberries, loganberries, jostaberries and thornless blackberries. There are also grapes and established asparagus beds. A 20' x 20' greenhouse has drip irrigation, and terraced vegetable beds are watered on a timer. More than a dozen rose varieties grow alongside mature perennial borders, and a predator-proofed pen is ready for chickens. There’s not a blade of lawn to mow.
Water comes from a 212 ft well producing 4 GPM that has never run dry. It is supplemented by rainwater collection into 5,500 gallons of cistern storage.
Morning coffee and evening wine on the brick patio by the greenhouse, beaches and park trails minutes away. This is a place to grow, create and live an intentional island life for generations to come. Call the listing agent today for more information or to book a time to go by for a look.
4150 Pinecrest Road - Denman Island, BC
Please see the mapping section of this listing for detailed location.
Denman Island is a small, rural Northern Gulf Island located just off the east coast of Vancouver Island. The island has a quiet, low-density feel, with a mix of forested acreages, farmland, waterfront properties and modest rural homes. Its overall vibe is relaxed, independent and community-oriented, with a strong local arts, farming and small-business presence. Development is limited, and there is no conventional downtown or major commercial centre.
Basic amenities on the island include a general store, post office, hardware store, cafés, a library, elementary school, community facilities and a medical clinic. Fire and ambulance services are also available locally. For major grocery shopping, pharmacies, banking, larger retail, specialist medical care and professional services, residents generally travel to the Comox Valley.
Denman is ferry-dependent, but it is relatively accessible compared with many Gulf Islands. The vehicle and passenger ferry from Denman West to Buckley Bay takes about 10 minutes.
Courtenay is the main service hub, approximately 20 minutes by car from Buckley Bay, while Comox is roughly 25-30 minutes away. Together, Courtenay and Comox provide the closest full range of shopping, medical services, restaurants, schools, professional services and other urban amenities. Comox Valley Airport is also about a 30-minute drive from Buckley Bay.
Nanaimo is approximately one hour south of Buckley Bay and provides additional major shopping, services and ferry connections to the Lower Mainland. Travel to Vancouver requires both the Denman ferry and a Vancouver Island–Lower Mainland ferry connection, so trips off-island require some planning.
Overall, Denman Island offers quiet, private Gulf Island living without being completely isolated. Its short ferry connection and proximity to Courtenay and Comox make it particularly appealing for those looking for a rural island lifestyle while still maintaining reasonable access to larger centres and essential services.
Denman Island has a long history of human use and settlement, with Indigenous presence on the island extending back thousands of years. European exploration of the area was recorded in the late 18th century, and the island was later named after Rear Admiral Joseph Denman.
In the late 1800s, farming, logging and small-scale resource industries became the foundation of the local economy. Agriculture was abundant, with orchards, livestock and food production shaping much of the island’s rural character.
During the 20th century, oyster cultivation and other marine-based industries also became important. Over time, Denman gradually evolved from a primarily farming and resource-based community into the quiet rural, residential and arts-oriented island community it is today, while still retaining strong agricultural roots and a distinctly small-scale character.
