    Description

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, this property offers the ultimate Bella Coola lifestyle. From your doorstep you can kayak, hike, fish, mountain bike, farm, or explore endless outdoor adventure in one of British Columbia’s most spectacular settings.

The acreage is divided into three separate sections, each offering its own unique features and opportunities. The largest parcel straddles Mackenzie Highway 20 and includes approximately 8 acres of level hay field with beautiful river frontage along the Bella Coola River. The south side of the highway is mostly level and highly usable, ideal for farming, hay production, horses, or building your dream riverfront home. The north side rises steeply into the mountainside and offers pockets of level ground along with some mature timber. Power is available right at the lot line on this section.

A second parcel is accessed from Hammer Road and borders the Bella Coola River on the north side. Previously logged, this section has naturally regenerated and is now well treed with mature hemlock and cottonwood, creating a private and peaceful setting.

All three sections enjoy outstanding mountain views, excellent sun exposure, fresh water, and year-round road access. Whether you are looking to build a family home, establish a hobby farm, create a recreational retreat, or simply enjoy the quiet beauty of the Bella Coola Valley, this property offers exceptional potential in a truly remarkable location.

    Size

There appear to be some discrepancies regarding the exact size of the property, likely due to the significant elevation changes, the Bella Coola River, and Highway 20 running through portions of the land. The most commonly referenced size is approximately 123 acres, based on information obtained from ParcelMaps, BC Assessment, and Landcor.

Located in the Bella Coola Valley, 37 km east of the government wharf and east of the Noosgulch Bridge. A portion of the property can also be accessed from Hammer Road.

From Williams Lake, travel west along Highway 20 for approximately 477 km. The route takes you across the stunning Chilcotin Plateau, through Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, and down the famous “Hill,” descending nearly 1,400 metres into the spectacular Bella Coola Valley. From there, continue alongside the breathtaking Atnarko and Bella Coola Rivers for approximately 30 minutes. The property is located just east of the Noosgulch Bridge and a portion is also accessed via Hammer Road.

    Area Data

The Bella Coola community is remote in nature and contains a population of approximately 2,000 people. The primary geographical structure of the community, both in terms of physical structures and population distribution is the long, narrow valley. The Chilcotin Highway 20 stretches from the government wharf (on the Pacific Ocean) through the extent of the populated portion of the valley, through Hagensborg and Firvale before climbing to the Chilcotin Plateau. The entire population of the community lives on either side of this road or very near to it.

Both Bella Coola and Hagensborg have essential services including retail outlets for groceries and hardware, gas stations and repair shops, Canada Post offices, gift shops, and places to purchase fishing/hunting licences. Banking can be done at the Williams Lake & District Credit Union in Bella Coola; ATMs are located at the Hagensborg Shop Easy, the Credit Union and the Bella Coola General Hospital. The Bella Coola General Hospital has a walk-in clinic and a pharmacy. Bella Coola/Hagensborg also offer an outdoor rink, an outdoor public pool, an organic market, a vet clinic, as well as numerous arts, gifts and coffee shops.

The Nuxalk Nation is the Indigenous community in Bella Coola, with deep cultural roots in the region. Their traditional territory spans forests, rivers, and ocean waters, supporting a way of life centered on fishing, hunting, and artistry. The Nuxalk people actively preserve their language, traditions, and governance while engaging in local economic and conservation efforts. Bella Coola, at the heart of their territory, offers a gateway to the Great Bear Rainforest and a glimpse into their rich heritage.

    Vegetation

The property offers a diverse mix of coastal and interior vegetation, creating both natural beauty and practical useable land. The northern section rises up the mountainside and is well treed with mature fir, hemlock, cedar, and spruce, providing privacy, wildlife habitat, and potential timber value.

The approximately 8-acre field running parallel to the Bella Coola River and Highway 20 has previously been used for hay production and has also been planted with approximately 1,000 sea buckthorn seedlings along the riverfront. The section between Hammer Road and the Bella Coola River was logged in the past and is now naturally regenerating with primarily cottonwood and alder, creating a lush and vibrant riverside setting.

    Recreation

In the Bella Coola Valley, you will find an abundance of fresh water, fresh air, wildlife and outdoor recreation. During the winter months, you can enjoy cross-country skiing, snow machining, snowboarding or skiing on the local hill in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, skating at the outdoor rink, or taking part in the weekly volleyball and basketball games. Summers are filled with hiking the many trails, kayaking or fishing in the rivers or ocean, horseback riding, biking, rock climbing, or simply taking a dip in the refreshing pools along the river. The valley also features a popular frisbee golf course and a newly built outdoor swimming pool, adding even more recreation opportunities for residents and visitors alike. There is truly something here for every outdoor enthusiast.

BC Parks has also established the Belarko Bear Viewing Station, located at a prime grizzly feeding area along the Atnarko River. The station is open and staffed from mid-August to mid-October, when bears are most active along the riverbanks. The Great Bear Rainforest on the Central Coast of British Columbia is a world-renowned wilderness eco-tourism destination and one of the planet’s few remaining old-growth temperate rainforests. It is home to coastal wolves, black bears, grizzlies, and the rare Kermode “Spirit Bear.”

In recent years, the mountainous terrain surrounding and accessible from the Bella Coola Valley has become an internationally recognized destination for heli-skiing, with several skiing films shot in the area and local operators advertising access to over 1.5 million acres (6,100 km2) of terrain.

Bella Coola also hosts several well-known community events throughout the year, including the Bella Coola Music Festival on the third weekend of July, the local rodeo on the July long weekend, and the Fall Fair held each September.
