Horseback Adventures Ltd. presents a truly unique opportunity to acquire the operating platform of one of Alberta’s longstanding horseback tourism businesses. Established in 1979, Horseback Adventures has spent 47 years introducing guests from around the world to the spectacular eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies. Based near Brule, Alberta, at the foot of Jasper National Park, the family-run operation is now in its second generation and has built its reputation around smaller groups, personalized guiding and authentic horseback experiences in some of Alberta’s most remarkable backcountry.
The business has historically offered horseback experiences ranging from short trail rides to multi-day wilderness adventures, including customized pack trips into the mountain country surrounding Jasper National Park, Willmore Wilderness Park and Rock Lake–Solomon Creek Wildland Provincial Park. The current operation features guided rides, wilderness trips and multi-day stays at the West Range Cabins, accommodating everyone from novice riders to experienced horsemen.
At the heart of the operation is the established West Range backcountry camp, situated within Rock Lake–Solomon Creek Wildland Provincial Park. The camp provides an authentic off-grid mountain experience while offering guests a level of comfort rarely found this deep in the backcountry.
The main 20' x 30' cooking and dining lodge is equipped with a propane stove and refrigerator, dining tables and chairs, cupboards, cookware and hot and cold running water. Two additional wash sinks with hot and cold water are located on the rear porch. The camp operates with solar-powered lighting and battery storage, propane heat and a gas-powered generator.
Guest accommodations include two 14' x 16' sleeping cabins, each accommodating up to five guests, together with a 10' x 12' cabin with two beds. A 16' x 24' tack shed and staff quarters provides three additional beds and built-in saddle and pack-saddle storage. Bedding is provided throughout the camp.
Additional improvements include a shower house, three outhouses, feed and equipment storage, corrals and supporting camp infrastructure. The cabins were reportedly freshly painted and stained in 2024.
The current Horseback Adventures operation uses the West Range Cabins as the base for multi-day wilderness adventures, with guests riding into the remote camp and using it as a jumping-off point for full-day horseback excursions into the surrounding mountain country.
A significant component of this opportunity is the established package of Crown land dispositions, permits and operating areas that support the business. The current offering includes the seller’s interests in:
PML 170001 is a Parks Miscellaneous Lease within Rock Lake–Solomon Creek Wildland Provincial Park for the purpose of operating the backcountry lodge. The disposition commenced October 1, 2017 and presently runs to September 30, 2042, with provision for an additional 10-year extension to September 30, 2052 subject to the terms of the disposition.
The lodge site encompasses approximately 1.53 hectares or 3.78 acres. Permitted improvements include four wood-constructed cabins, a cook/dinning lodge, shower building, feed storage building, corral, salt/mineral feeder, three outhouses, campfire ring with benches and other supporting improvements.
Importantly, the permitted activities under the disposition extend beyond horseback riding. Authorized activities include commercial trail riding, guiding and outfitting, camping, hiking, cross-country skiing and dog-sledding, providing flexibility for a future operator to pursue additional seasonal tourism opportunities subject to the applicable permits and approvals.
The operation is further supported by PGP 140001, a Parks Grazing Permit associated with the backcountry lodge, as well as DML 120179, an approximately 0.183-hectare horse holding area near the Rock Lake Forestry Road.
A substantial package of equipment and furnishings necessary to support the backcountry camp is included in the offering. Included items identified in the current listing documentation include cabin beds, mattresses and bedding; tables and propane heaters; solar panels, batteries and inverter; propane cookstove, refrigerators and propane bottles; water system, sinks, counters and cupboards; dining tables, chairs, couches and serving furniture; dishes, cookware, cutlery, mugs, linens and towels; Honda generator and ordinary maintenance tools.
Also included are the tack shed with sleeping quarters, built-in saddle and pack-saddle storage racks, two wall tents measuring approximately 14' x 16' and 8' x 10', and highway signage.
Horses and tack are not included in the sale.
