Revelstoke is a quaint mountain town of approx. 8,000 residents and many more short-term visitors. Revelstoke’s economy is very stable and diverse based around tourism, forestry and the rail. The largest growth sector of late is tourism and the related service industry as more and more visitors come for outdoor adventures year-round. The ton is also seeing a bump in young professional families who are leaving larger centres for Revelstoke but maintaining their employment while working from home. The town offers all the amenities one requires with two grocery stores, lots of shops, restaurants and cafes, all your professional services, spas, a great hospital with emergency service, great schools and a picturesque and vibrant western style town core.
750 metres away is the access point for the Mount Cartier recreation trails. These trails have been used for many years as a great early season mountain bike ride–a 7,000 foot vertical ride! The lower section is one of the first trails to melt out in the spring due to the higher sun exposure on this side of the valley. More recently, the potential of this trail has begun to show itself . . . the hardiest of riders are riding/pushing up to the summit of Mount Cartier and the more adventurous are getting a heli-drop to the summit and down-hilling it. Across the valley and 20+ minutes away are the Mountain MacPherson cross-country trails with 57 groomed mountain bike trails from beginner to expert. You also have Boulder Mountain and some amazing downhill trails and the newly opened life accessed down hill runs at RMR and its signature 5,620 trail–over 15 kilometres!
Heading south from the property and away form town you quickly get to gravel road and forest service roads taking you back into the backcountry for further exploring.
Only a couple kilometers to hundreds upon hundreds of kilometres of gravel FSR roads for exploring the backcountry areas around Mount McCrae, Mount Sproat, Arrowhead. Revy Riders Dirt Bike Club also has some amazing maintained motocross, kids and endurocross trails 14 kilometres away.
The Columbia River and Arrow Lakes Reservoir can be accessed 500 metres away where there is sand/rocky entry. This is the ideal place to launch a little fishing boat, kayaks, paddle board, canoe or for a quick refreshing dip. Or launch your paddle board, kayak, or canoe in town and float downstream for 10-11 kilometres. It is and amazing scenic setting with towering mountains bordering ecologically rich wetlands.
It is hard to discus the recreational lifestyle opportunities without getting into winter sports. Revelstoke has long been known as a powder snow and ski town with over 120 years of skiing history. But it was not until the more recent years that this secret winter paradise went mainstream. Revelstoke now boasts one of North America’s most highly rated ski resorts (RMR) and the highest vertical drop in North America with over 10 metres of average snowfall at the resort and even more across the valley. The Revelstoke Snowmobile Club offers over 100 kilometres of groomed trails and thousands of acres of alpine riding. The Revelstoke Nordic scene is also world class with both skate and traditional trials, even a night loop under the lights!
The Revelstoke Golf club is one of BC’s best kept secrets with18 challenging holes along the Columbia River.
The Selkirk Saddle Club in Revelstoke has an indoor arena and the surrounding Crown land and wetlands offer hundreds of kilometres of western riding on trails, open wetlands and forest service roads. The property itself has some nice open land for paddocks and is partially fenced and crossed fenced. At the front of the property the owners used to have goats. One could easily set this up area up for horses and the shop once served as a horse barn.
