    Description

The Haven on Gabriola Island is more than just a spectacular oceanfront property, it is a special place with a long history of helping people.

Established in 1983, and after almost 40 years, the Board of this not-for-profit Centre for Transformational Learning has decided it is time to pass the torch and are offering it for sale for the first time.

The offering provides an opportunity for a new owner to develop a wellness center, health facility, resort, private residence, or their own personal vision. The opportunity may exist to work with The Haven, to carry on the tradition and inject new energy into the transformative programs being offered.

The 6.77 acre property with 426± ft of low bank walk on oceanfront on Taylor Bay on the northwest corner of Gabriola Island was chosen because it is one of those special places that are worthy of this type of project. The lodge and its amazing oceanfront are surrounded by a beautiful, forested park like setting of mature coastal Douglas fir and cedar.

Buildings include the main lodge, which houses various office spaces, dining room, outdoor eating deck, kitchen, and retail store. There are numerous meeting rooms including the Phoenix Auditorium, a 3,000+ square foot event space with stage and lighting features. Amenities include a fitness center, hot tub and sun deck, pool, library, and meditation room. The property is improved with 16 buildings totalling 37,779 ft2 with guest rooms that can accommodate up to 120 people.

Click Here for a description of each building and see the site map under Maps and Plans.

In addition to the lodge property, there are 4 adjacent residential properties that are not included in the purchase price, but will be available to add to any offer of purchase until The Haven property is sold.

Why People Come to The Haven

The Haven property currently provides three types of revenue-generating opportunities: program participants, group and event rentals, and resort/Airbnb guests. The unique transformational programming has been our main business since its founding in 1983. The guest experience is enhanced by our beautiful location on a scenic oceanfront property with a view of sprawling beaches and vibrant sunsets.

Generally, people attend programs because they are experiencing a life transition, crisis or they are looking for more fulfillment in their lives. The Haven provides an opportunity for people to examine their patterns and tendencies as they learn to be in relationship with themselves and others. The Haven takes a practical approach to solving problems, teaching tools and techniques to work through these difficult transitions that participants find highly effective.

After attending as participants, many people return to attend leadership programs where they can learn and practice the Haven methods of working with people. They may go on to use this training in their own professions and as interns and assistants to support the Haven programs.

The strongest marketing has always been word of mouth and once introduced to the Haven, many people stay involved for years, and even decades. This long-term involvement is attributed to the rich relationships they form with fellow participants, their interest in the unique ideas and programs and their appreciation for the experienced and knowledgeable program leaders.

Primarily, however, people return because they begin to feel more alive, aware, and creative. Whether it be how they communicate, relate, or manage difficult life situations, participants often lead more meaningful and fulfilling lives after coming to The Haven, whatever that may look like for each person.

That many of the participants continue to make donations for years after being at The Haven is a testimony to how well the programs work and how important this place has been.

The people at The Haven would love to find a new owner who would continue to collaborate with them to preserve, build on, and enrich these valuable programs and facility.

    History

Since 1983, The Haven has been at the forefront of personal and professional development.

Founded by psychiatrist Bennet Wong, and Jock McKeen, a western physician trained in Chinese medicine, The Haven continues to educate participants from all over the world through transformative programs based upon the central ideas, themes and models originally developed by Ben and Jock, embodied and taught by our renowned faculty. Read more about Ben and Jock, the founders.

In 2004, ownership of The Haven was transferred to a charitable organization, Haven Foundation.
