    Recreation

Avola offers a full range of recreational activities. Wells Gray Provincial Park is one of BC’s largest and most spectacular parks at 1,308 acres. The landscape includes alpine meadows, snow- capped peaks, lakes, waterfalls, extinct volcanoes, lava beds and mineral springs. Camping, hiking, canoeing and white water rafting are popular in the summer. Murtle Lake, the largest canoe-only lake in North America; and Eleanor Lake are the hub of family fun come summertime.

Angle the Blue, Mud and North Thompson Rivers where something’s sure to bite.

Blue River is host to world class Mike Wiegle heli-skiing in the winter months. Hit the pristine wilderness on your sled or do a backcountry hut-to-hut trip. When moist, warm coastal air collides with the cold, dry northern climate of Blue River, it creates exceptional conditions for dry, powder snow, up to 10 m (32 ft) of the white stuff each year. Add two mountain ranges and 1.2 million acres of pristine wilderness—you’ve got ski conditions you cannot find anywhere else in the BC, making Blue River and Avola an internationally renowned destination for winter recreation.
