    Location

You will find Big Bar Lake on the Cariboo Plateau of south central British Columbia, lying at the base of the Marble Mountain Range. It is on the edge of wilderness, but within a 5-hour drive of the Lower Fraser Valley. This scenery rich area of BC remains to be discovered by most of those seeking refuge from the busy, hectic life of the Lower Mainland. Big Bar Lake is a place you can feel yourself going back in time.

Big Bar Lake contains some of the cleanest, most clear water to be found in the region. The colour of the water and of the shoals reminds one of the waters of the Bahamas and Hawaii, with deep green depths and green-white shallows. Unlike a majority of BC Interior lakes, is not tea colored. Big Bar Lake is 4 km in length, 0.5 km in average width, with a surface area of 229 hectares, and a maximum depth of 21 metres. It lies at an elevation just over 1,067 metres (3,500 ft).

Its location in the lee of the Marble Mountain Range gives the Big Bar Lake area a unique micro-climate, with more days of sunshine than areas in the south central interior of British Columbia. Winters are cold enough to freeze the lake’s surface solid, while summers are hot enough to provide wonderful swimming in the lake’s warm waters.
