    There is no road access to Denny Island. It can be accessed by watercraft, floatplane or helicopter. BC Ferries provides public access from Port Hardy or Bella Coola to most of the Central Coast Communities including Ocean Falls, Denny Island and Bella Bella. Pacific Coastal provides daily flights from Port Hardy and Vancouver. Northern Thunderbird Air offers charter services from Terrace. Denny Island boasts a 3,000 ft runway for private planes to land at their leisure. However you come to the Central Coast, getting there will be a big part of the adventure.

    The Inside Passage surrounding Denny Island has many twists and turns. The northern shore rises like a wall from the sea, while to the south the land becomes flatter and the coastline broken up by coves and inlets. After the straight, wide reaches of Fitz Hugh Sound and Fisher Channel, the closeness of the land makes the passage seem somehow more intimate, and, as the sea is often calmer, more peaceful.

    This area is also part of what is known as “The Great Bear Rainforest” and one of the world’s greatest wildlife areas. This area hosts healthy populations of all wildlife species that were present since 1793. The Coast Mountain Range has isolated many wildlife populations from the rest of North America. As a result, the Great Bear rainforest is home to many subspecies and genetically unique populations such as the Spirit Bear and the Coastal Grey Wolves.

    The small community of Denny Island has a year-round population of approximately 140 people. There are many services on Denny island including a grocery store, liquor store, post office, Laundromat, cappuccino bar and art gallery/gift store, hair salon, marina, shipyard, marine/hardware store, fuel dock, restaurant, pub, numerous B&B or cabin rental accommodations as well as a campground and RV park. There is also a public school servicing grades K-7.


    One of the last unspoiled rainforests on the planet, the Great Bear Rainforest is nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountain Range on the west coast of British Columbia. The ancient Great Bear Rainforest is one of the largest tracts of temperate rainforest left in the world (2 million hectares), and is home to thousands of species of plants, birds and animals. In this lush rainforest stand 1,000-year-old cedar trees and 90-metre tall Sitka spruce trees.
