Description :

This stunning backcountry property is nothing short of spectacular, two titles and just under 350 acres of pure BC awesomeness!

This is the ideal recreational/investment property with several attractive features. Most rural land buyers look for a water feature on the land - a creek, pond, stream, river or lake. Well, this property has them all with lake frontage on one of BC’s top boating lakes (Moyie Lake), over 7,000 feet of frontage on the Moyie River, and Lamb Creek which closely resembles a setting from A River Runs Through It, flows through the land.

The land is off-grid and privately set along the Moyie River between the north and south Moyie Lakes and accessed via Lamb Creek Forest Service Road - seasonal access only approx. 7 to 8 km of unmaintained road.

On the land there is well over 100 acres of beautiful open pasture making it ideal for a small to mid size agricultural operation/uses. One could set up an amazing self-sufficient homestead surrounded by amazing recreation and geography with extensive frontage on Crown land and all just 40 minutes to the Kootenays largest city (Cranbrook) and its airport and amenities.

There are also two appealing pockets of mature timber (approx. 55 to 60 acres) plus some healthy hard wood stands along the river and in between the pastures. In fall the colors are truly spectacular!

The same owner owns the adjacent 90 lakefront acres, Listing 19208, also for sale for $1.2 million as well as 3 additional and adjacent titles between 8 and 12 acres for a total of 6 titles and just under 500 acres.

Area Data :

Moyie and Moyie Lake
A small lakeside community in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia on the eastern shore of the lake. It is located on Highway 3, south of Cranbrook (20 to 25 minutes away) on the eastern shore of Moyie Lake.

History :

The name "Moyie" or "Mooyie" is a corruption of the French "mouiller" meaning "to wet," so named by the trappers and fur traders who made their way through the sodden river valley. The French origin explains the pronunciation "Mo-yeah" which is still used today.

Discovery of a rich galena deposit in 1893, and the resulting St. Eugene Mine, brought the first settlers to this area in 1896. The developing mine influenced the expansion of Consolidated Mining and Smelting Co. Ltd. (later Cominco and now Teck Cominco) and the Crow's Nest Pass Railway. The mine and the town prospered until 1911 when production dwindled to the point where only small quantities of ore were being shipped to the Trail smelter. By 1929 the company closed the mine for good. As you stand in the village today there is little to remind you there was once a population of around 1,500, seven hotels, three churches and businesses lining both sides of Victoria St. (Highway 3/95). A few houses, the fire hall, St. Peter's Church, tailings pile and the crumbling foundations of the old concentrator are all that remain of Moyie in its heyday.
