Salmon Spawn and Grizzly Bear Viewing

In the fall, spawning salmon can be observed struggling up the Chilko River at the north end of Chilko Lake. With the salmon come the grizzly bears and a remarkable opportunity to view these massive bears and their cubs as they come to feast on the spawning salmon.

Prepare dinner in your own fully equipped kitchen or if you prefer to be pampered, just a few steps away are fine dining and a crackling fire in the cozy lounge in the main lodge.

Area Data :

Chilko Lake
Chilko Lake is a high sub-alpine lake (about 1,300 m above sea level) surrounded by glaciated 2,700 m granite peaks. The lake is 20,032 ha (49,480 acres) in size; it has a mean depth of 107.9 m (353.9 ft) to a maximum depth of 365.9 m (1,200 ft) and sits at an elevation of 1,172 m (3,884 feet).

Chilko Lake is considered by many to be British Columbia’s most beautiful lakes. It stretches 84 km (52 miles) with huge, snow peaked mountains and glaciers surround the lake. Don’t forget to take a camera the photo opportunities are outstanding!

Chilcotin Region of BC
The jagged mountain peaks of the Chilcotin are covered in vast ice fields and wide alpine meadows, gradually softening into large valleys, gently rolling foothills, pine covered forests, lakes and rivers and the grasslands of the Chilcotin Plateau.

This is essentially backcountry at its best complete with some of the best fishing lakes and rivers to be found in North America. The expansive Chilcotin lies between the Fraser River and Coast Mountains, a 5,000 square kilometre plateau of rangeland, where thousands of cattle roam unfenced land. Here cowboys ride the range to tend their cattle, roping and branding the young in the spring, keeping them from straying in summer and rounding them up in the fall.
