Description :

The Elk Park development covers over 4,000 acres, of which 3,500 acres is comprised of 16 nature preserves ranging from 36-480 acres and only 4 ranches remain - Cliffside, Bent Creek, Clearwater and McKay. Each remaining acreage is unique in its own way; two of them completely surround a private lake (Clearwater and McKay), one has a meandering year-round creek (Bent Creek), Cliffside offers amazing southern views and all have beautiful forest with lots of trails and roadways throughout making them ripe for recreation.

Each acreage comes with a water source, power, year-round road access and complete solitude behind the secure gated entry to Canada’s only master planned ranch community.

One of the unknown perks to this community is the fact that the use is restricted to residential/hobby farms or ranches. With rural property the zoning is often so open that it allows for wide ranging and very conflicting uses in close proximity. On the re-sale side of things, I can assure you this has huge benefits. Many times I have tried to sell beautiful log or timber frame homes in the country, but very often the neighbor property and its particular use impacts the sale in one way or the other. The developer Fred Schickedanz summarized his vision below:

“If you want to have your horses and a few cattle, you can. Or you could simply build your dream home on it and enjoy the view of the Purcell Mountains, the lake, streams and all the amenities that British Columbia’s Columbia Valley offers - fishing, skiing, golf, mountain biking, hiking - all this just three hours from Calgary and only a few mins to the town centre of Radium Hot Springs.”

Descriptions for Each of the Available Ranches

Bent Creek: One of the largest ranches in the development, Bent Creek has a running creek, healthy forest and beautiful mountain scenery in all directions. Most of the property is flat and undulating with small canyon cutting through a portion of the acreage and running north to south. A nice quad/walking trail takes you along down the canyon to the lower portion which fronts on the highway in a small aspect allowing for access off the high if one so desired. Several great building sites exist with stunning views from every aspect. One of the more favorable sites is located next to an open meadow with the creek flowing nearby. How big is 463 acres… well the property is over 2 kilometres long and nearly a kilometre wide, plenty of space to set up your hobby ranch, graze some cattle, trail riding, quads, you name it. Water licence on Baptiste Lake for 4 acre feet of water. ($725,000)

Clearwater: Clearwater Ranch is one of only two lakefront acreages within the Elk Park development located along the pristine south shore of Baptiste Lake. This 40 acre lakefront property features fantastic buildings sites overlooking the lake, with breathtaking scenery and Rocky Mountains. Trees have been thinned and a small clearing is ready and waiting to be further cleared and developed to suit you desire. This parcel provides owners with a unique opportunity for lakefront living and a few horses on your same property. Lots of trails throughout and seasonal creek. Water licence on Baptiste Lake for 4 acre feet. ($950,000)

Cliffside: Cliffside Ranch is split by a private road in The Ranches at Elk Park and divided into an eastern and western section comprising 230 acres in all. The eastern section and about 70% of the land is mostly forested with a couple little meadows tucked inside its rolling landscape. Here you will find some great building sites either on a flat bench or perhaps one of the sloping sites for those looking to build and take full advantage of the views. On the western section the property borders the hwy with the main feature being a large flat bench with unbelievable views of the Columbia wetlands. The private road that cuts this property into two sections allows for even better accessibility to all parts of this nature paradise. From this private road you can connect onto small pathways and trails all throughout the acreage. Cliffside is also the only acreage that is accessible from both the north and south gate to the community. Water license on Baptiste Lake - 4 acre feet of water. ($825,000)

McKay: McKay Ranch is arguably the most picturesque quarter section (160 acres) in all of BC. It is situated on the pristine waters of Baptiste and almost completely encompasses the lake. It also features a running creek and awe inspiring mountain views. Along the lake and throughout this acreage there are well maintained private roadways, trails, and a couple absolutely stunning building sites exist. One at the south end and another two on the west side of the lake looking back at the Ricky Mountains and Kootenay National Park. The east side of the property backs onto Crown land and above that the National Park. The majority of the land cover is mature trees with some small clearings within it waiting to be further opened up. The pictures say it all for this one! Water licence on Baptiste Lake for 4 acre feet. ($1,950,000)

Area Data :

Columbia Valley
The Rocky Mountain Trench, known as the Columbia Valley, is surrounded by the BC Rocky Mountains on the east and the Purcells to the west. Both are impressively high and rugged ranges. The Columbia Valley cradles two of the more important rivers on the North American continent, the Columbia River and the Kootenay River. Here at the headwaters they roll by untouched by man, unless you consider the dip of a kayak paddle, or the fly of the fisherman, to be touching. The Kootenay River, which originates high in the Rocky Mountains in Kootenay National Park, is fed by dozens of creeks and several rivers as it rolls southward. The Columbia River, with its headwaters in Columbia Lake, rolls through the southern part of the valley northward for more than 200 kilometres before bending southward and heading west to the Pacific Ocean at Astoria in Oregon, 2,000 km from its source. The broad waterway is an important stopover on the semi-annual migration route for wildlife and a joy to travel in any season.
