Pender Harbour Area
North of Halfmoon Bay are three communities surrounding “the Harbour,” Madeira Park, Garden Bay and Irvines Landing. Pender Harbour first became famous for its fabulous fishing, artists, photographers, hikers, canoers, kayakers and golfers have discovered the area’s stunning natural beauty and attractive resorts that anglers have long known about. Charter or rent a canoe, kayak or motor boat to explore the area by water. Divers say the harbor is one of the world’s best sites for underwater exploration and photography - especially in the winter months. In September there is an annual jazz festival.


Sunshine Coast Area
There’s a good reason why they call it the Sunshine Coast, it has some 2,400 hours of sun a year, making it sunnier and drier than other coastal areas. Technically it is part of the mainland coast, stretching 180 km (110 miles) along the northeast shores of the Strait of Georgia beneath the Coast Mountains, from Howe Sound to Desolation Sound. Peace and quiet reign in secluded beaches, bays and fjords, and lush forests of red cedar and Douglas fir. Wildlife is abundant on land, in the air and in the water. Deer, raccoons, eagles, osprey, sea lions and seals abound. Fishing and shell fishing are super, with five species of salmon as well as rainbow, steelhead, kokanee and cutthroat trout. Although some commute to Vancouver, most people live and work in small communities strung along the main road that threads the coast from south to north HWY 101.
