Area Data:

PENDER HARBOUR: North of Halfmoon Bay are three communities surrounding ‘The Harbour’; Madeira Park, Garden Bay and Irvine’s Landing. Pender Harbour first became famous for its fabulous fishing. Artists, photographers, hikers, canoers, kayakers and golfers have discovered the area’s stunning natural beauty and attractive resorts that anglers have long known about. Charter or rent a canoe, kayak or motor boat to explore the area by water. Divers rank the area as one of the world’s best sites for underwater exploration and photography – especially in the winter months. There is local shopping, financial services, health care and elementary and high schools. This is a community of diverse cultural and community events; the largest being the Pender Harbour Jazz Festival in September which is attended by jazz enthusiasts from across Canada and the US.

SUNSHINE COAST: There is good reason why this area is called the Sunshine Coast as it has some 2,400 hours of sun a year, making it sunnier and drier than other coastal areas. It is part of the mainland coast, stretching 180km (110 miles) along the northeast shores of the Strait of Georgia beneath the Coast Mountains, from Howe Sound to Desolation Sound. However, this coast feels more like an island. Just a few miles, as the seagull flies, from downtown Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast can only be reached by boat or air. It is serviced by BC Ferries with a 40-minute trip from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale. The trip from downtown Vancouver to Pender Harbour, which is mid-way up the Coast, only takes about 2 hours in total, but it delivers you to another world. The Coast is also connected to Vancouver Island via a 1 hour 15 minute BC Ferry cruise from Powell River on the upper Sunshine Coast to Comox.

Peace and quiet reign in secluded beaches, bays and fjords, and in lush forests of red cedar and Douglas fir. Wildlife is abundant, on land, in the air and in the water. Deer and raccoons, eagles and osprey, sea lions and seals abound. Fishing and shell fishing are excellent, with five species of salmon, as well as rainbow, steelhead, kokanee and cutthroat trout and clams, oysters and prawns.

SAKINAW LAKE: Sakinaw Lake is the perfect lakefront eco-paradise get away, offering an endless variety of activities. Nestled in a beautiful mountain valley the properties located on the pristine waters of Sakinaw Lake are some of the most sought after lakefront in BC.

Recreation:

The water, wilderness and communities around Sakinaw Ridge offer an endless scope of recreation opportunities. For the outdoor enthusiast there is boating, fishing, diving, golf, hiking and endless mountain roads and trails to explore. There are also frequent musical, literary and artistic events and opportunities, as well as a wide variety of special interest and service clubs to encourage community involvement.
